Workshop description:

In this four-week workshop we will focus on the theme of connection to oneself and to others through the study of voice, mind, and body in the context of an ongoing creative process. This workshop is for you if you want to dive deep into the experience of your own voice and integrate this experience into your artistic practice. It is an invitation to re-energize your own artistic practice through vocal work and perceptual practice. We will experiment playfully with practical, physical, perceptual and philosophical ways into artistic expression and performance.

This four-week program will include bodywork, meditation, group and individual voice work, creative writing, polyphonic singing and time for creative projects or practices in performance. We are hoping to facilitate four weeks of immersion in a connected vocal and creative process, without any pressure to produce results.

To apply for the programme please send a letter of motivation to: Walli Höfinger: art@wallihoefinger.com and Christiane Hommelsheim: christianehommelsheim@gmail.com
Please feel free to contact us with any further questions you might have.
Preference will be given to participants with previous experience in Roy Hart Voice Centre voice work.

The human voice in all its colors and expressive possibilities, independently of aesthetic norms and conventions, is the center of attention in my work. If we listen closely to our voices we listen closely to ourselves. The voice as a bridge between our rich inner world and the world around us fascinates me in art and life.

My focus in sharing the voice work with others lies in listening. Listening with the whole body, listening to one’s inner voice, listening to the poetical and musical voice of oneself and others. This focus prepares the path for connection to each person’s voice and developing artistic expression from there.

I connect most strongly to Wolfsohn’s image of the voice as a bridge between the mind and the collective unconscious, and a way of becoming more fully aware of the nature and potential of what it is to be human. We work in an atmosphere that honours the inherent expressive value of all sounds. From that base of openness, trust and curiosity, one works to uncover a wider range of sound expression than one has imagined. The process is joyful, fearful, embarrassing, messy, exciting, playful, demanding a total presence of body, mind and spirit. The voice is developed as a literal and figurative tool for both self-awareness and the transformation of that awareness into conscious life with others, whether that be in performance of works of art, or in the performance of one’s own daily life. I believe a core value of the Roy Hart work is the dissolving of artificial boundaries between life and art.

My work is inspired by the work of Roy Hart, Alfred Wolfsohn, and various founding members of the Roy Hart Theatre. Using my theatre background, I work with each individual trying to link presence, soul, and voice. I usually work with the body as a starting point to connect with the breath and support it in order to allow the voice to express itself. I think the voice allows us to bridge the gap between our inner world and the world around us. This is why, for several years, I have been working on the spoken voice, on the singing voice, the voice filled with our multiple colours that touches and perhaps reveals a piece of our soul.
