Workshop description:

A soulful journey through sound, melody and movement exploring how to develop the relationship between your voice and the song you sing. As raw material please choose a song dear to you and that you know by heart. Connecting to our voice’s intuition, we’ll improvise to enrich this material with surprising colours.  Often we place our favourite songs on an impossibly high pedestal, holding our vocal dreams far out of reach. Here we’ll travel with our songs and playfully break their authority, to test the boundaries of their structures.

We’ll work a cappella, free to follow our voice’s sense of timing and to feel the fullness of our sound in the space. Now you can ask yourself some essential questions: Why did I choose this song? What can I bring to it, and what can it bring out of me?

Finally you will make new choices, to deepen and shape a unique and intimate artistic offering. Through both personal material as well as collective songs proposed by the teachers, you’ll find space to tune into your authentic voices.

We’ll experience singing from your voice’s full range of creative possibilities, as the most revealing expression of who we are as artists and as people. The workshop includes physical preparation with Movement and Yoga, individual lessons and group work.

I love discovering the beauty of an individual voice: beauty in the sense of singing from a place within us where we are confident, conscious and authentic; dancing with the voice deeply rooted in the body; giving voice to whatever is inside or around us and transforming it into music; singing and living everything which envelopes our soul-voice – feelings, memories, thoughts, emotional or muscular tensions, dreams…. This lively creativity necessitates a high quality of listening, both to myself and to others – to feel connected. For me it’s a marriage between art and spirituality, embracing everything. It’s my life.

For me, this is integrative voice work bridging body, emotion, imagination, and musicality, all in service to the performer’s artistic journey and personal development. We take creative risks by suspending ourselves in moments of vocal conflict and doubt. In doing so we can open unexpected possibilities and connect with where the sound wants to go, beyond what we think we want from our voices. In this way we can learn to value the whole of our human instrument and what our expressive voice has to offer, leading us to sing generously with authenticity, pleasure, and purpose.
