Workshop description:

Combining the voice work of Roy Hart Theatre and the Art of Songwriting, this workshop will free the voice to allow fresh vocal sounds to energize, shape and colour the composed songs.

Each participant will create a ‘River of Life’ from which keys moments could be chosen as a starting point for the creation of their own personal songs. The morning sessions start with Roy Hart and Alexander Technique warm-ups followed by physical and vocal work in small groups and individually, leading into the Art of Songwriting. Participants are encouraged to bring their instruments ! The teachers can also offer piano or guitar accompaniment when required. No prior musical or songwriting experience is required.

At the conclusion of the workshop, the students who wish can present their songs to their fellow participants, teachers and possibly some invited guests.

As a facilitator and teacher, I have always appreciated the psychology of group dynamics and harnessing the alchemy of collective energy to create a frame within which individuals are empowered to express themselves with clarity and confidence.

I believe that everyone can make music: create sounds and structure them into melodies. That is composing in real time (= improvising). I love to guide my pupils in the discovery of that ability within themselves.

Writing a song for me is a magical moment and experience. It is like giving birth to something that somehow already exists and is longing to be brought to life. Everytime I find myself in this process, I feel joy and excitement. Helping other people to create their own piece of music, finding what encourages them to start this journey and helping them to “unlearn” obstacles which keep them from allowing a playful creativity to flow is a great work for me to do in a workshop.
