In this workshop we will explore the many facets of passion. How can we invite energy, emotion and intensity into our bodies and voices? What does Duende mean in Flamenco, having Angel in Latin American singing, and how can we use the same intensity in a soft song? To be full, in the softness, the extremes, the joy, the tension, the sadness, to be in the paradoxes…
We begin each day with body and voice warm-ups of body and voice, with physical and vocal relaxation work and breathing exercises. In group classes we will explore passion through improvisation and work on polyphonic songs from different traditions, such as Pablo Neruda and Mikis Theodorakis’ Canto General. The workshop also includes work in small groups, with a greater emphasis on individual lessons. For this individual work bring a song, a chant, or a text that touches you, that transports you.
I weave my personal story into a song, through my body, my sensations, scars, wounds, my imagination, and my instinct. I allow myself to be touched by the vital moment.
