Workshop description:

Let’s bring 2024 to a close and usher in 2025 with our bodies and our voices. Let’s celebrate your New Year’s wishes with words and music!

We’ll start our mornings with movement, breathing and singing classes, followed by learning and performing traditional and sacred Georgian polyphonic songs. These same songs will be at the heart of our New Year’s Eve celebrations, when we invite you to enjoy the unforgettable experience of a Georgian Supra. A Supra is a ceremonial banquet where each guest is invited to express and sing their innermost being, and to listen to others as they have never done before.

Our Supra meal will be specially prepared by a Georgian chef.

Laurent and Zoé will be your guides for this five-day immersion in the traditions of the Caucasus. Laurent has travelled twelve times to the region to study the music, and as a passionate devotee of this repertoire has been performing it in France with various ensembles for the past 28 years. Zoé Perret lived in Georgia for 16 years, learning its complex language and the subtleties of regional vocal styles. She founded and directed the Tbilisi-based Ensemble Kimilia. As such, she is one of the foremost transmitters of this tradition in France.

If you join us for this workshop, be ready to sing in three voices and to feast your ears and your heart!

Our workshop will include singing lessons in two groups.

Exploring the many facets of the voice, playing with the sound of our voices together, letting ourselves be surprised by the richness of our timbres and enjoying a sensory experience of singing: this passion is at the heart of my teaching approach. I like to encourage everyone to discover something new in their voice, for greater confidence, freedom, and pleasure. I lived in Georgia for a long time, immersed in its rich ancestral vocal culture, a vector for human connection. Georgian oral polyphony, with its extraordinary wealth of techniques and styles and the power of its harmonies, is fertile ground for both individual and collective sound exploration.

For me, the philosophy of the Roy Hart voice work lies in listening to and observing the totality of the person who is expressing; taking the risk to be fully in the moment and following our intuitions. It is to give confidence to the student so s/he will dare to venture into places within him or herself, and into qualities of the voice perhaps not yet known, while taking pleasure in this exploration. It is to open a field of possibilities and to welcome the many personalities, voices and energies of which we are comprised. Finally, it is to appreciate beauty wherever it resides.
