Workshop description:

This workshop aims to liberate the creative imagination of each participant to give form to ideas, songs, and texts through music, theatre, or dance.

Interpretation demands a vibrant synthesis of mind and spontaneity, technical control and expressive freedom. The art is the ability to discern, make choices, and accept one’s limitations when confronted by a wealth of material that may emerge during the research process.

PROGRAMME:

Physical preparation and work using the space – work in small groups – improvisation – individual work on the projects brought by each participant.

  • Source and Expansion: Daily sessions begin with a progressive physical preparation based on different techniques, which encourage a free and dynamic release of the breath, voice and body : articulation of the spinal column, pelvis, rib cage, etc., as well as a fluid and inventive relationship to the moving body in space.
  • Individual Voice work in small groups: Individual voice work is both technical and expressive, adapting to each participant’s experience, needs, and dreams. The aim is for each participant to discover and enrich her/his/their meaningful sound, as well as creating a firm foundation from which to explore and create. Time is given to explore unknown timbres and textures, and their relationship, singing, text, and emotion.The liberated wildness of raw voice will be encouraged in improvisations, as well as the subtle flexibility and nuance of the melodic voice.
  • Preparation of material and Interpretation: The first three afternoons will be dedicated to the preparation of the artistic material brought by each participant finding with particular attention to the musical level of each participant. The last three afternoons will be discovering insights into the interpretation of the material. This is individual work with the important support of the group bearing witness.
  • Group singing: The day will end with the whole group together in either harmonic singing or group improvisations.

Workshop registration

  • Registration for the workshop is confirmed only after receipt of deposit. A deposit of 120 euros for short-term workshops (week and weekend), 300 € for longer ones (4 weeks and year groups), and 700 € (for some workshops with several modules) is required.

  • You can pay by CB or bank transfer. If you pay by bank transfert please pay your deposit within four days or enrolment will be automatically cancelled.

  • If you are unable to make an online payment, please write to us here or call +33 466 85 45 98. Our office is open 10 :00 a.m. – 5 :00 p.m., Monday-Thursday.

  • The remaining balance of the fee must be paid before the beginning of the workshop (payment instructions will be sent in the confirmation email). In case of non-payment before the workshopse, you will have to pay on arrival at Malérargues by credit card, cheque or cash.

  • In the event of low enrolment, the centre reserves the right to cancel a workshop and any deposit can be transferred to another workshop, or fully refunded.

  • You can cancel your registration within one month before the start date of the workshop. A €30 administrative fee will be charged for all cancellations. We regret that deposits are non-refundable within 30 days of the first day of a workshop.

  • Workshop fees do not include meals. Two common kitchens are available for the participants of the internships. They are reserved in priority to the interns housed in the lodgings. A fridge is available for trainees who are present all day in the changing rooms.

Membership

The Centre Roy Hart is an association under French law and all participants in the workshop must therefore be members. The annual membership fee is 30€ for the calendar year. This fee is added to your registration if you are not a member for the current year.
